New Delhi: Media has termed Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the US as a ‘landmark and historic’ one. Even BJP leaders have posted news clippings of US daily, New York Times, it made Modi visit as the headline. But the reality, New York Times headline story on Modi's visit is fake. 

The screenshot image carried by New York Times with a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the headline “ Last, Best Hope of Earth”, then strap “ World’s most loved and most powerful leader is here to bless us”. The headline was referring to Modi's visit to the US on September 24-25, NYT has carried a ‘story’ on September 26, 2021. 

The headline of Modi's visit to the US in NYT has gone viral in social media, many BJP leaders, followers, and cadres have shared it in Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups, with tagging messages like ‘Proud of my PM’. 

BJP Youth Wing leader Rohit Chahal shared the image of NYT on his Twitter handle, his tweets has been retweeted many times and the same has been carried in many WhatsApp groups of BJP. BJP cadres have circulated at booth level too. 

One WhatsApp forward of the photograph states: “Modi ji on the front page of the United States’ biggest newspaper. What could be a greater matter of pride than this?”

Fake news: The screenshot image of NYT on Modi's visit to the US was fake, in fact, NYT has not carried Modi's visit to the US on that date (September 26). Moreover, social media posts have not provided URL links to New York Times story on Modi's visit to the US. 

Interestingly, there was a typographical error in the image, typo — 26 “Setpember” instead of 26 September, and the image is morphed. 

The font style of the headline in the screenshot does not match the NYT stylesheet, the date of the story also features PM Modi used was fake, the image was copied from Zee News story. Zee News has carried photos of Modi titled “PM Modi to chair UNSC high-level open debate on enhancing maritime security.” The same image has morphed in NYT.
