"No regrets for quitting BJP", Swamy Prasad Maurya
SP leader, Swamy Prasad Maurya while quitting BJP stated that without him no party can form the government in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that he hold sizable OBC votes in his pocket.He also said that wherever he goes, OBC people will follow him. But faced a humiliating defeat in the 2022 UP Assembly elections.
Conceding his defeat and describing that victory and defeat are an integral part of electoral politics, Former Minister in BJP government and SP candidate who lost in the recent assembly polls in UP, Swamy Prasad Maurya said that the objective for which he quit the BJP, is still relevant.
Having lost the election from the Fazilnagar constituency, Maurya said that his fight to raise the public issues will continue.
Stating that he respects the decision given by the people, he however said that though he has lost the election but not his courage.
Claiming that the voters of UP have shown faith in the party which he said is the reason for gaining higher seats compared to the last assembly polls, he said that the party has increased its vote share, tally in assembly and emerged stronger. “ It also means that the BJP can be made weaker in the coming elections. Meanwhile, we will hold discussions to find the reasons for the failure and to prepare a plan to strengthen the party for future polls.
It may be noted that Maurya joined SP after quitting the saffron party ahead of the assembly polls. He contested on SP ticket from Fazilnagar, however, BJP’s candidate and his nearest rival defeated him.
When asked, he claimed that he has no regrets for quitting the BJP. Politics does only mean gaining power but it also means to convey the message of truth to the people, he said.
