Omicron scare: Key decisions of CM Bommai's emergency meeting

Bengaluru: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Friday chaired a meeting related to the COVID-19 situation and the two Omicron cases in the state. 

Two cases of new coronavirus variant Omicron have been detected in Karnataka so far through the genome sequencing effort of the INSACOG consortium of 37 laboratories established by the Ministry of Health. Around 29 countries have reported 373 cases of Omicron Variant so far.

What are the decisions? 

  • 2 Omicron cases detected in Karnataka, yet to receive the formal report on the cases
  • Children are allowed in schools if only parents get 2 doses of the vaccine 
  • Only 500 to be allowed to attend wedding ceremonies
  • Health Department has been directed to conduct 1 lakh COVID tests every day. Covid beds, ICU beds prepared during 2nd wave of COVID-19 to be deployed. CM Bommai has directed Health Department to set oxygen plants.
  • COVID-19 control room to be reopened. 
  • COVID-19 vaccine, masks are mandatory. 
  • The state government to hold next assembly session in Belagavi Suvarna Soudha. Separate guidelines will be issued for the same.
