Oscars hold a moment of silence in solidarity with Ukraine

Hollywood: Ukraine born star Mila Kunis, touched on the topic of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while introducing a musical performance by Reba McEntire, 'Somehow You Do."
The actress did not take the name of Ukraine while presenting the performance. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences observed a moment of silence to reflect on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The organisers expressed their solidarity with the people of Ukraine through slides with messages of support that appeared on the screens.
Kunis said, "Recent global events have left many of us feeling heartbroken, but it's impossible not to be moved by the fortitude and dignity of those confronting such sorrow."
"One cannot help but be in awe of individuals who find the strength to fight on in the face of unspeakable despair," she added.
The Dolby Theatre's huge screen displayed a series of slides. "We'd like to observe a moment of silence to express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are currently confronting invasion, strife, and prejudice within their own borders," read the first.
"While film is an important medium for us to show our humanity during times of conflict, the fact is that millions of Ukrainian families require food, medical care, clean water, and emergency services. Resources are limited, and we, as a global society, can do more "the next one was read

Others at the ceremony appeared to find the solution in donning blue ribbons with the phrase #WithRefugees.
