Padma Shri recipient social worker Sindhutai Sapkal no more
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the passing of the social worker.
Pune: Renowned social worker and Padma Shri recipient Sindhutai Sapkal passed away at the age of 74 in Pune on Tuesday. Sindhutai was conferred the Padma Shri in 2021 in the Social Work category.
'She was admitted to the hospital for the last 1.5 months and died due to a heart attack,' Medical Director, Galaxy Hospital, Dr Shailesh Puntambekar, told news agency ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the passing of the social worker.
PM Modi said in a tweet, "Dr. Sindhutai Sapkal will be remembered for her noble service to society. Due to her efforts, many children could lead a better quality of life. She also did a lot of work among marginalised communities. Pained by her demise. Condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti."
President Ramnath Kovind in his condolence message said " The life of Dr Sindhutai Sapkal was an inspiring saga of courage, dedication and service. She loved andserved orphaned, tribals and marginalised people. Conferred with Padma Shri in 2021, she scripted her own story with incredible grit. Condolences to her family and followers."
