Calcutta HC directs CS to keep documents of post-poll violence
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the West Bengal Chief Secretary to preserve all documents related to the post-poll violence case.
The high court passed the orders to the Police to register all cases of the victims of the violence. The five-judge bench headed by justice ACJ Rajesh Bindal has directed the state government to ensure medical treatment for all victims and ensure ration for the affected even if they don’t have ration cards.
It also issued a show-cause notice to the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police of Jadavpur, asking why the contempt proceedings should not be started against them in the post-poll violence case.
The BJP had alleged that the number of party workers killed since the announcement of poll results on May 2 has touched 27.
In the recently held assembly polls, the Mamta Banerjee-led TMC bagged 213 of the state’s 294 seats while the BJP could wrest only 77.
