Puri Temple Lodges FIR Against Servitors for Using Mobile Phones on Chariots

PURI, Jul 8 – The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has lodged a formal complaint with the police against several servitors for allegedly using mobile phones on the chariots during this year’s Rath Yatra, in violation of a long-standing ban.
The Officer on Special Duty (Security), SJTA, filed a written complaint at the Singhadwar police station, citing visual evidence from social media and news platforms showing servitors using mobile phones during the sacred procession.
“Despite the clear prohibition on carrying or using mobile phones on or inside the chariots during Rath Yatra, it has come to light that some servitors violated the rule,” the complaint stated. It added that such actions not only compromise the sanctity of the rituals but also pose potential safety hazards to both devotees and temple property.
The SJTA has requested the police to treat the complaint as an FIR and initiate legal action against those responsible. Photographic evidence of the alleged violations was also submitted along with the complaint.
The mobile phone ban during Rath Yatra is a well-established protocol aimed at upholding religious decorum and ensuring safety amid the large gatherings that accompany the annual event. (PTI)
