Bengaluru: Angry Hindu organizations workers have set vehicles on fire, stone-pelting incidents reported in many parts of the town after Bajarang Dal activist hacked to death by five to six assailants on Sunday night in Shivamogga city.

Visuals went viral on social media, showing angry protesters holding weapons and wooden peace to attack other community members in the town. One aged lady, four police personnel and one person sustained injuries during stone-pelting incidents. Injured persons were taken to the nearby hospital. 

Harsha, a 26-year-old Bajarang Dal member who worked as a tailor was stabbed by assailants on Sunday night in Shivamogga town.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the city to avoid untoward incidents. The administration has imposed public gatherings, schools and colleges remain closed. Despite prohibitory orders, a large number of people were gathered in deceased Harsha’s house.

His mortal remains were carried through procession from Hospital to his house and from there to the crematorium center. RDPR minister K.S.Eshwarappa led the procession march.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Eshwarappa directly blamed that Muslim goons have killed Bajarang Dal workers and threatened to give a fitting reply to them. After his provocative statement, tension escalated in the city.

Mr. Eshwarappa described Harsha as an honest man. "Muslim goons murdered him. Recently, DK Shivakumar claimed that the national flag was replaced with the saffron flag, and around 50 lakh saffron shawls were ordered from a factory in Surat for the anti-hijab protest. Goondaism increased after he made these statements," he said.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, who hails from the Shivamogga district has said that the probe so far has not revealed any link between the murder and the hijab controversy.

"Hijab issue has nothing to do with this incident. It has happened for different reasons. Shivamogga is a sensitive city," he told reporters after meeting with family members of the deceased.

During the procession march of mortal remains of Harsha, angry people have set the vehicles on fire and pelted stones. Police have dispersed the agitating people who thronged at sensitive areas in the city.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that police have found clues during their investigation and are working on them.

KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar hit back at Eshwarappa for his remarks, said that he (Eshwarappa) was a "mad man". "Siddaramaiah has said that there is no connection between his tongue and his mind. The BJP leadership should sack him," he said.
