Bengaluru: Kannada film industry’s Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar's last film, James, hit the silver screens today March 17 and today his birthday also.

James, the last film of the late actor who passed away last year due to massive cardiac arrest, opened to packed houses. In many cities in the northern parts of Karnataka, tickets were already sold out and for the next few days, tickets will not be available easily for movie lovers and maybe for die-hard fans also, because of the craze the movie has generated.

His fans erected huge cut-outs of the star. They did Abhishekam to the cutouts and offered floral tributes. In Hubballi, one of the biggest cities of north Karnataka, Appu fans took out bike rallies in the city. Many fans were seen distributing sweets, Uppit, and Shira outside the theatres to the Appu fans and the public.

Many fans celebrated Appu’s birthday by cutting cakes outside the theatre at midnight last night.

The action film, starring Puneeth Rajkumar, was released in 400 cinema houses in the state, and in the US, it will be released in 100 theatres. Aside from that, the film will be released in Qatar, Oman, the UAE, and a few South African countries.

When Puneeth Rajkumar passed away, he had completed his shooting, but the dubbing of the movie had not yet begun. His elder brother, Shivarajkujmar, did the dubbing part of the Appu. It remains to be seen whether his voice would suit Puneeth and how fans and the audience react to the dubbing, said one of the actors.

Members of the Rajkumar family watched James at Veeresh cinema in Bengaluru. Media reports said police resorted to lathi-charge in a few towns to control the enthusiastic fans.

Appu's James may face stiff competition from The Kashmir Files outside the state, which is doing well due to its strong content.

The movie is directed by Chetan Kumar and produced by Kishore Pathikonda. Priya Anand played the female lead in the movie.
