Punjab farmers to get Rs.2 lakh each for taking out tractor rally in Delhi on January 26
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has announced Rs. 2 lakh financial assistance to 83farmers who were arrested in Delhi for taking out a tractor rally on Republic Day on January 26.
Each farmer will get Rs. 2 lakh each, the move the State government has a spark controversy, the opposition BJP has criticized the decision of the state government.
Farmers from Punjab and Hariyana camped at Delhi since one year, protesting against three agricultural laws. Though the Centre has kept in abeyance of all three laws, but farmers are insisting the Centre to scrap all three laws, they have alleged that three agricultural laws give free hands to private firms in deciding price of agricultural produce.
"Reiterating my government's stand to support the ongoing farmers' protest against three black farm laws, we have decided to give ₹ 2 lakh compensation to 83 people arrested by Delhi Police for carrying out a tractor rally in the national capital on January 26, 2021," the Chief Minister tweeted.
It may be recalled that on January 26, a group of farmers from Punjab took a tractor rally in Delhi. The situation went out of control soon after farmers are heading towards the red fort. The police have said that protesting farmers have deviated given route and broke the barricades to enter Delhi. Police have arrested the agitating farmers and booked the case.
The Punjab government has strongly backed the farmers. The Punjab government vehemently opposing the three agricultural laws stated that these laws are not helping the farmers. The Punjab government has passed a resolution in the Assembly urging the Centre to scrap all three laws.
Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted that thanked the state government for taking a decision to give financial assistance to the farmers who took the tractor rally in Delhi.
