Rahul Gandhi gives new acronym to GDP- Gas, Diesel, Petrol; asks 'Where did 23 lakh crores go?'

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP government's handling of economic affairs and rising fuel and LPG prices, especially, recently announced a four-year National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).

Rahul Gandhi said, "In the last seven years, we have seen a new economic paradigm. Demonetization on one side, and monetization on the other side".

He claimed that the demonetization impacted the working class. However, NMP benefitted a handful of friends of PM Narendra Modi.

"Farmers, labourers, small and medium businesses, MSMEs, salaried class, government employees and honest industrialists are demonetized. Who is being monetized? 4-5 friends of Narendra Modi ji - economic transfer is being done", he said.

He argued that the LPG cylinder, petrol, and diesel price was low despite the high international market price during the UPA rule.

"People can argue that there is a rise in petrol and diesel prices in the international market. During the UPA govt in 2014, crude oil was priced at Rs 105, today it's Rs 71 - it was 32 per cent higher at our time. Gas was priced at Rs 880 in our time; today, it's Rs 653 - 26 per cent lower," he said.

Rahul Gandhi called out the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the reported GDP rate. He gave a new acronym to 'GDP'.

"Modi ji keeps saying that GDP is rising, Finance Minister says that GDP is showing an upward projection. I then understood what does it mean by GDP. It means 'Gas-Diesel-Petrol'. They have this confusion. The government earned Rs 23 Lakh Crores through GDP - not the Gross Domestic Product but the Gas-Diesel-Petrol. Where did this Rs 23 Lakh Crores go?"
