Russia announces ceasefire to facilitate ‘humanitarian operations’ in Ukraine
The list says that Russia will open corridors from Sumy city in northeast Ukraine, where around 600 Indian students have been stranded.
Kyiv: Amid the intensifying war between Ukraine and Russia, a little relaxing news has come that Russia has decided to call for a ceasefire to facilitate some ‘humanitarian operations in the war-ravaged nation.
According to the reports, the ceasefire will come into effect from 12:30 PM India time. The information with this regard has been shared by the Russian embassy in India which has also given the list of humanitarian works needed to be carried out.
The list says that Russia will open corridors from Sumy city in northeast Ukraine, where around 600 Indian students have been stranded.
It may be noted at the UN security council meeting, India had raised the matter of their nationals stranded in Ukraine and the situation of Ukraine. In his statement, India’s permanent representative at the UN, T.S. Tirumurti has said that India is "deeply concerned that despite our repeated urgings" to both Russia and Ukraine, the "safe corridor for our students stranded in Sumy did not materialise."
"In order to conduct a humanitarian operation from 12.30 IST on March 8, 2022, Russia declares cease-fire and is ready to provide humanitarian corridors," the Russian embassy in India tweeted.
The reports said that Russia has announced humanitarian corridors from Sumy by two routes to Poltava and to "the territory of the Russian Federation to Belgorod.
Meanwhile, the UN has considered the opening of humanitarian corridors as the key actors in giving a brief halt to the war.
However, Ukraine and Russia are blaming each other for being unable to open such corridors for helping common civilians.
While Russia said that it was Ukrainian forces that were stopping people from leaving Mariupol city, Ukraine said that Russia was violating the ceasefire that was preventing the evacuation of people
