People feel pang of steep hike in fuel prices

Bengaluru: With the assembly elections in five states are over and experts are indicating the possible steep hike in the fuel prices shortly, the common people are already feeling the pang of the possible hike.

The people who are already suffering from the sharp hike in the petrol prices which has  shot up to Rs. 100/liters, may have to brace for more hikes due to a sudden hike in crude oil prices in the international market because of the Ukraine-Russia war.

“Many reports are suggesting that the government has not hiked the petrol prices due to assembly elections. The BJP government did not wish to attract any more anger or the common people ahead of the assembly polls. But now as the polls are over and prices of crude oil are increasing significantly, the government will possibly announce a hike in fuel prices in India”, said Mahesh Goudar, one of the journalists.

He said that he too will have to bear higher fuel expenses if the government hikes prices. “ With the limited salaries, we are already facing a tough time to manage the expenses, mainly the fuel. Since the reporters travel extensively to cover the news, we surely spend more on fuel than others. The hiked price will create a bigger hole in my pocket”, he said.

Anand Shivapure, the milk supplier and Kiran Kalasad, the newspaper agent are also worried about the possible fuel hike. Anand delivers milk at the doorsteps to his around 60 customers every day on his moped.

“Since I deliver milk on a moped, fuel expenses are inevitable. Now, if the fuel prices are hiked further, it will be a big problem for me and people like me. I will be in a tough situation. If I increase the price of milk, then I will have to face the anguish of customers. If I don’t, then I will be losing my earning “, he said.

The position of Kalasad is the same. Since he works on commission bases for delivering newspapers, he will either have to add fuel expenses to the monthly bills of his customers or he has to bear those expenses.
