Moscow: With a total of 5,530 sanctions, Russia is now the world’s most sanctioned nation surpassing Iran and North Korea. The country faced 2,778 new sanctions.
The country faced new sanctions from US and European countries within 10 days of invading Ukraine, according to a global sanctions-tracking database Castellum.ai, a news outlet reported.

Pressure is mounting on Russia every day. Netflix, TikTok, Samsung, and credit card companies have joined the growing list of companies that have severed connections with Russia or are reconsidering their activities in the nation as reputational and financial concerns loom.
Over a decade, Iran has faced 3,616 sanctions, the majority of which have been imposed in connection with its nuclear programme and support for terrorism. Syria has 2,600 sanctions, whereas North Korea has 2,100.
Many of the sanctions imposed on Russia before the Ukraine war were for meddling in the 2016 election and assaulting political dissidents in Russia and abroad.
European nations, which have historically been cautious of imposing sanctions, have led the way, even outpacing the United States in some cases. They were bold enough to pull several Russian banks off the SWIFT financial messaging system, which the US originally resisted.
