Russia-Ukrainian crisis: MEA to bring back 18,000 Indians from Ukraine

New Delhi: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is making alternative arrangements to bring back about 18,000 Indians, including students, from war-hit Ukraine.

Kerala CM P Vijayan has written to EAM S Jaishankar to intervene and ensure the safety of 2320 students from the state in Ukraine. He requested EAM to make necessary arrangements for their return by arranging special flights.
"MEA is taking steps to bring back about 18,000 Indians including students from Ukraine. As the air space in Ukraine is closed, alternative arrangements are being made for the evacuation of Indian nationals. Central govt will ensure the safety of all Indians", Muraleedharan told reporters.
He said, "I spoke to Malayali students in Ukraine on phone. Indian students in the southern areas of Ukraine have told us that they're getting food, water and power. Students and parents should not panic. Our govt has brought back Indians even from places like Iraq".
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine continues to remain open and operate in the capital city Kyiv. The Embassy is working on finding a solution to this difficult situation.
