Sanjay Raut accuses Kirit Somaiya of siphoning off Rs 58 crores from INS Vikrant Fund

New Delhi:  Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena MP accused BJP vice president of Maharashtra unit Kirit Somaiya of swindling Rs 58 crores which were crowd-funded to save India's first aircraft carrier, the 'INS Vikrant'.

Sanjay Raut alleged when INS Vikrant's condition deteriorated, people contributed a large sum of money to save INS Vikrant as the government didn't provide funding.  But the amount hasn't been handed over to the Raj Bhavan.

"People contributed a large sum of money [to save INS Vikrant]. Somaiya had said that it'll be handed over to Maharashtra Raj Bhavan. People were wondering about it. We've received info from Raj Bhavan that no such sum of money has been handed over to Raj Bhavan. Where did the money go?" asked  Sanjay Raut.

Raut's allegation against the BJP leader comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached assets worth over Rs 11 crore belonging to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife and his alleged close aide Pravin Raut under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED action is a part of their investigation into the irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra chawl project by Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL).
