Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu, chief of the Punjab Congress, congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party on their huge victory and stated that this was a politics of change. "I congratulate the people of Punjab on this outstanding decision to bring in a new system," he told reporters.

Sidhu lost to AAP candidate  Jeevan Jyot Kaur in Amritsar East by a margin of over 6,000 votes. Sidhu started his political journey with BJP, he won three Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar on a BJP ticket. Before 2017, Punjab state Assembly election, he joined the Congress and contested from Amritsar East seat and he won by a margin of 42,000 votes.
