Sunil Kanugolu, Strategist Behind Congress's Karnataka Win
Sunil Kanugolu is now poised to lead the party's election management efforts in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In December 2022, five months before Karnataka elections 2023, a man in all white kurta-pajama walked out a government office in Hyderabad wearing a mask. As photo journalists rapidly clicked pictures, political journalists in the city wondered whether they had indeed spotted Sunil Kanugolu, Congress’ election strategist for Karnataka, Telangana and Gujarat elections and also Lok Sabha polls 2024.
The Congress candidates, barring a few, were primarily picked based on surveys carried out by Sunil Kanugolu’s team.
The poll strategist was hired by the Congress in March last year. Two months later, Sonia Gandhi named Sunil Kanugolu a member of the party’s 2024 Lok Sabha election task force.
The strategist, who does not have any online presence, has worked with DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu in recent years
