Thawarchand Gehlot takes oath as Karnataka Governor

Bengaluru: Thawarchand Gehlot was sworn in as Governor of Karnataka on Sunday in Bengaluru.  Chief Justice of Karnataka Abhay Srinivas Okha administered the oath of office and secrecy at a swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. 

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, senior ministers, Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Chairman of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti and leaders of opposition parties Congress and JDS are present. 

Thawarchand Gehlot is the 19th Governor of Karnataka. The appointment of Gehlot came along with the change of heads of other states across the country as approved by President Ramnath Kovind on July 6th. 

And he is also the first person serving as the Governor of Karnataka from Madhya Pradesh. Gehlot formerly represented Sahajapur in the lower house of Indian Parliament, Lok Sabha, from 1996 to 2009.

Early this week, Gehlot resigned union minister a day before the cabinet reshuffle in which 43 MPs were inducted into the Modi Cabinet.
