TMC nominates Sushmita Dev to Rajya Sabha
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominated Sushmita Dev to the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
"Mamata Banerjee's vision to empower women and ensure their maximum participation in politics shall help our society to achieve much more!" tweeted TMC.
"This is a strong message to Northeast. By giving someone from Northeast an RS seat where West Bengal MLAs will be voting, means she has serious plans for Northeast. I am a Bengali from Assam... I assure that I will not let her down," she said.

Sushmita Dev thanked West Bengal Mamata Banerjee for the nomination. "I am overwhelmed. I Thank my leader Mamata Banerjee from the bottom of my heart. Her conviction to see more women in parliament is exemplary. I will do my very best," said Sushmita Dev.
Sushmita Dev quit Congress as an MP and All India Mahila Congress President. She wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and cited no reason for her decision to quit the party, but talking about a “new chapter of public service”.
She is a daughter of Assam Congress stalwart and influential Bengali leader Santosh Mohan Dev; She had earlier been an MP from Silchar in Assam, represented by her father.
