US to provide security to Kabul airport, Embassy: Pentagon
Washington: As the Taliban is approaching Kabul, Pentagon has stated that US forces in Afghanistan continue to provide security to Kabul airport and Embassy.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said, "US forces in Afghanistan continue to provide security to Kabul airport and Embassy. Three battalions are preparing to move from their current locations. Leading elements already in Kabul. The rest are preparing to move but will mostly be in place by Sunday".
John Kirby ostensibly referred Pakistan to cooperate in securing the lives and property of Afghans in the war-torn country.
"Taliban's trying to isolate Kabul. They've taken over border crossings, highways and major intersections to control lines of communication and revenue. We'd urge Afghanistan's neighbors to act in ways that lead to better outcomes for Afghan people", said John Kirby.
The Afghanistan Government has urged the international community, especially the US, China, Russia and Pakistan, to adopt serious measures to prevent Taliban attacks.
The Afghan negotiating team headed by the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Dr. Abdullah, attended the Extended Troika meeting on Wednesday with the participation of Russia, the US, China, and Pakistan in Doha, expressly echoing the Afghan people and government’s demands.
