Mr. Viswanath, CEO of CSK stated that form issue of Raina was the reason of franchise not picked him for IPL 2022.
Bengaluru: It was surprised by many IPL fans after the Indian cricketer Suresh Raina went unsold in two day auction for Indian Premier League 2022 .
Due to his poor form, no team owners have shown interest to buy Suresh Raina who was part of Chenni Super Kings from 2008 to 2015 and from 2018 to 2021 and also exhibited splendid performance for CSK.
Raina was the fourth highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5528 runs from 205 games. The 2011 World Cup winner also scored 4687 runs for CSK.
Mr. Viswanath, CEO of CSK stated that form issue of Raina was the reason of franchise not picked him for IPL 2022.
"Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, not to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have", Mr. Viswanath said.
"So that's one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team," Mr. Viswanath added.
During two day IPL auction in Bengaluru, the CSK has purchased Deepak Chahar for huge price of Rs. 14 crore, he was the most expensive bowler in IPL tournament history.
CSK also bought back, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo and Uthappa for Rs 6.75 crore, Rs 4.40 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively. All these players have played IPL2021.
However CSK has not able to get back Faf du Plesis this time, The South African batsman was bought by RCB. Plessis has played crucial role for CSK in last season.
"We will miss him, we will miss du Plesis who has been with us for the last decade, that's the process and beauty of the auction", Mr. Viswanath said.
