Andhra rain: 17 people died
Tirupati: Nearly 17 people have been killed and over 100 people washed away in floods in Andhra Pradesh. Hundreds of pilgrims are trapped in the floods at Tirupathi.
Tirupathi is completely waterlogged, ghat roads and walkways to Tirumala Hills have been closed. The Swarnmukhi river in Tirupati is overflowing and people have been shifted to safer zones. District authorities have requested the pilgrims to postpone their visits to Tirupati. Few pilgrims are trapped in massive floods.
National and state disaster relief teams have been deployed to handle the situation and rescue operations are in full swing. The floods have damaged the roads at many places and rail, road and air traffic have been hit. People have been stranded on roads and buses. District authorities have been struggling to rescue the stranded people.
The Rayalaseema region is worst affected. Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantpur districts in the state have been affected.
