ASEAN declares 2022 as ASEAN-India Friendship Year
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th India-ASEAN Summit virtually via video conference at the invitation of the Sultan of Brunei on Thursday.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th India-ASEAN Summit virtually via video conference at the invitation of the Sultan of Brunei on Thursday. The Summit was attended by Heads of State/Government of the ASEAN Countries.
PM Modi said, "Due to COVID-19, all of us had to face a lot of challenges, this challenging time was also a test of India-ASEAN friendship. Our mutual cooperation in COVID era will keep strengthening our relations in future and form base for goodwill b/w our people".
"In 2022, our partnership would complete 30 years. India will also complete 75 years of its independence. I am delighted that we will celebrate this important milestone as ASEAN-India Friendship Year".
The leaders of India and ASEAN have declared the year 2022 as ASEAN-India Friendship Year as it marks 30 years of ASEAN-India partnership. A series of activities will be conducted around the year to commemorate the anniversary.
The 18th ASEAN-India Summit reviewed the status of the ASEAN-India Strategic Partnership and take stock of progress made in key areas including Covid-19 & Health, Trade & Commerce, Connectivity, and Education & Culture. Important regional and international developments including post-pandemic economic recovery will also be discussed.
ASEAN-India Summits are held annually and provide an opportunity for India and ASEAN to engage at the highest level. Prime Minister attended the 17th ASEAN-India Summit held virtually in November 2020. 18th ASEAN-India Summit is the ninth ASEAN-India Summit to be attended by PM Modi.
