Captain to lead polls in Punjab: Congress high command
New Delhi: Putt an end to the speculation on leadership change in Punjab, Congress high command categorically stated that Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh will lead upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Punjab congress in charge Harish Rawat said that the party will face the elections under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh, the state will go for elections early 2022.
Punjab PCC President Navjot Singh Sidhu camp has demanded a change of leadership in the state, more than a dozen Congress MLAs and four ministers of Amarinder Singh cabinet demanded for change of leadership, but the high command has reposed faith in Mr. Singh, ruled out a change of leadership.
Demand for change of leadership intensified after the Chief Minister slammed the two advisors of Mr. Sidhu for their comment on Pakistan and Kashmir.
According to sources, more than 23 MLAs, including four ministers, held a meeting, urged the party high command for change of leadership. “Captain should be replaced else the Congress won't survive. We will meet Sonia Gandhi over the change of leadership”, said cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa after a meeting.
Notwithstanding dissent voice against the Chief Minister, party high command backed him. However, the elevation of Mr. Sidhu to the PCC post itself was a victory for the detractors of Captain Amarinder Singh. Mr. Sidhu, the biggest critic of the Chief Minister.

With the backing of the party high command clearly shows that it won't budge the pressure tactics of Navjot Singh Sidhu of his attempt to oust Mr. Amarinder Singh from the CM post.
Four ministers of Amarinder Singh cabinet, who are also diehard supporters of Sidhu, demanded a change of leadership. Ministers, Mr Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi , met Harish Rawat in Dehradun. After the meeting with Mr Rawat, they were expected to go to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi, PTI reported.
