Contempt plea against Modi, Shah for appointing Delhi police chief
New Delhi: Lawyer has filed a contempt plea in the Supreme Court against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for appointing Rakesh Asthana as the Delhi Police chief.
The petitioner has sought an urgent hearing of his petition; however, the Court has told layer M.L. Sharma that his petition be listed for hearing if the registry accorded number to it.
If it is numbered, we will post it for hearing, the bench headed by chief justice N. V. Ramana told the petitioner.
Petitioner has alleged that the Prime Minister, who is the head of the appointments committee of the Cabinet, and the Union Home Minister have jointly taken a decision to appoint Rakesh Asthana as the Delhi Police Commissioner.
Petitioner has stated that, according to the apex court's judgement, a person must have a "minimum of three months of service left prior to his appointment as the DGP".
