Delhi's 1st Omicron case reported today, admitted to LNJP Hospital
According to another agency report, with the new case detected in Delhi, the total number of Omicron cases has reached five in India.
New Delhi: The first Omicron case, a new coronavirus variant, has been detected in Delhi on Sunday. The patient admitted to LNJP Hospital had returned from Tanzania. Till now, 17 people who tested positive for Covid have been admitted to the hospital, reported news agency ANI.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, "First omicron case detected in Delhi. The patient admitted to LNJP Hospital had returned from Tanzania. Till now, 17 people who tested positive for Covid have been admitted to the hospital".
"Samples of 12 out of 17 positive passengers were sent for genome sequencing and one of them, who arrived from Tanzania, tested Omicron positive according to preliminary reports", reported Jain.

Last week, two cases of new coronavirus variant Omicron had been detected in Karnataka through the genome sequencing effort of the INSACOG consortium of 37 laboratories established by the Ministry of Health.
States have been advised testing of samples of international travelers coming from "At Risk" Countries on 1st Day and retesting on 8th Day needs to be done. International passengers from “at risk” countries are being advised to prepare to wait at the airports till the report of the RT-PCR test has come, and not book connecting flights beforehand.
