ED attaches Anil Deshmukh's assets worth Rs 4.20 crores

Mumbai: Enforcement Directorate (ED) Friday stated it had attached immovable assets worth Rs 4.20 crores belonging to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and his family under PMLA in a corruption case.

Anil Deshmukh, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, had to resign as the Home Minister of Maharashtra in 2021 due to extortion and money laundering charges. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate are currently probing Deshmukh's role in extortion.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had levelled allegations in March 2021 that Mumbai Police personnel Sachin Vaze was asked by Anil Deshmukh to collect Rs 100 crore per month from hoteliers and bar owners.

Subsequently, the Bombay high court directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled by former commissioner Param Bir Singh against Deshmukh.
