European Union assures to supply more military assistance to Ukraine

As the Ukraine-Russia war continues and the former is seeking military aid to combat Russian forces, the European Union has assured Ukraine to continue its supply of Military assistance to war-ravaged Ukraine.

According to the media reports, the foreign ministers of the EU have agreed to continue military assistance to Ukraine, in particular, they will increase the supply of weapons.

The assurance has come amid fears of increased hostilities in the east of the country. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced that it will offer help to Ukraine to fight against Russian forces.

He told media persons after a meeting of the EU Foreign Council in Luxembourg. "As you know, we have mobilized more funding from the European peace facility and we are ready to continue supporting Ukraine on the military side," he said. In order to help Ukraine defend itself, the EU must increase the supply of weapons, Borrell explained.

The military assistance is believed to come as strong aid to Ukraine which is seeking countries such as the U.S. to supply arms to fight against Russian forces.

The U.S. has not only supplied military aid worth millions but also has offered training to Ukrainian soldiers on operating advanced drones to fight Russian forces.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions on the Russian defence sector. According to a news release issued by Foreign Affairs Ministry, these new measures will impose restrictions on 33 entities in the Russian defence sector. These entities have provided indirect or direct support to the Russian military, the news release said. Since Feb. 24 when the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 700 individuals and entities from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Canada's latest sanctions will impose asset freezes and prohibitions on listed entities, the release said.
