Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls: 54.18 per cent per cent voting till 5 PM in 7th phase
Total 613 candidates are in the fray for the last phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, the 54 Assembly seats spread across nine districts.
Lucknow: Final and 7th phase of polling for 54 seats in Uttar Pradesh including 8 Assembly constituencies in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha Constituency Varanasi commenced on Monday. In the seventh and final phase of voting, 54.18 per cent per cent voters turnout recorded till 5 pm.
Total 613 candidates are in the fray for the last phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, the 54 Assembly seats spread across nine districts. Mau, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Bhadohi (Sant Ravidas Nagar).
All eyes focus on the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary constituency Varanasi, where Modi and prominent leaders of BJP did a roadshow. Even West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took a roadshow for Samajwadi Party candidates.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP and its allies swept in Varanasi. BJP won six seats and the remaining two, one seat had gone to BJP ally Anupriya Patel's Apna Dal (S) and one to Om Prakash Rajbhar's Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), which is now partnering Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party. However this time there will be a multi-cornered contest in Varanasi among
the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party, and Congress. The eight seats are Banaras City South, Banaras City North, Shivpur, Sewapuri, Cantonment, Ajgara, Pindra, and Rohaniya, come under the Varanasi Parliamentary constituency.
For the first time, due to Covid, hybrid poll campaign conducted by all parties in Uttar Pradesh and UP battle is do or die for ruling BJP, Opposition Samajwadi, and Congress parties. Uttar Pradesh election is considered as semi-final for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
