Fuel prices hiked 9th time in 10 days
New Delhi: Fuel prices were hiked by 80 paise per litre again on Thursday, this is the ninth hike in the last 10 days. Since March 22, petrol and diesel rates have increased by Rs 6.40 per litre.
According to media reports, petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 101.81 per litre, and diesel is selling at Rs 93.07. In Mumbai, the petrol & diesel prices per litre at Rs 116.72 & Rs 100.94 (increased by 84 paise)
Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state, depending upon the incidence of local taxation.
It may be noted that no price hike was done during the assembly elections for the five states, though the petroleum companies were saying that they were facing huge financial loss due to the hike in price of crude oil in the international market following the Ukraine war.
But after the elections were held and various parties formed the governments, the prices of fuels started going up significantly.
The fuel companies said that it was necessary to hike the prices as the rate of crude oil was rising during the 137 day hiatus from around USD 82 per barrel to USD 120 in the international market.
Meanwhile, Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi staged a protest at Vijay Chowk against the fuel price hike. Gandhi, along with party MPs from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha held a protest seeking to roll back the price hike of petrol and diesel.
