Good news for Kannada film industry in a few days
Bengaluru: The Kannada film industry can expect good news in terms of 100 per cent occupancy in theatres very shortly. Representatives of the Kannada film producers met Minister of Health Dr.K.Sudhakar on Tuesday.
The minister, it is learnt has responded positively to their request, and an announcement by the Government is expected shortly.
Producers Jayanna, Soorappa Babu and KP Sreekanth met the Health Minister on Tuesday morning. Three of their big-budget films; Bhajarangi 2, Kotigobba 3 and Salaga, starring Shivarajkumar, Sudeep and Duniya Vijay respectively, are awaiting release.
These films need 100 per cent occupancy in theatres to recoup their investments.
The Kannada film industry presented three concerns. First, theatres across Karnataka are allowed only 50 per cent occupancy which is hampering the release of big-budget films. Secondly, the night curfew across the State means the last show beings as early as 6 PM and all shows end by 9 PM affecting prime time collections.
The COVID positivity rate in Bengaluru has dropped to 0.57 per cent which is well below the 2 per cent threshold set by the Government for relaxing guidelines for other activities. Only film exhibition was still being restricted, the minster was informed.
