Hijab covers head, not our brain, says petitioner to Minister BC Nagesh
A group of students have filed a petition against banning the hijab in the premises of schools and colleges in Karnataka. Senior Supreme Advocate Devadutt Kamat is defending the petitioners.
Bengaluru: In a first face-off with the Karnataka Minister for Education BC Nagesh on the live TV debate, one of the petitioners before the Karnataka High Court, defended her Constitutional rights.
Haazra Shifa, asked to give her view on the India Today debate, said, " The Hijab covers our head, it doesn't cover our brain. Students should be allowed to attend classes with hijab.
The student denied the allegation of instigation by Islamic organisations- PFI and SDPI.
The minister evaded direct answer and refused to comment as the matter is sub-judice. He counted the student asking, " How students can file the petition before the High Court?" He hinted that some organisations are instigating the students.
Another student, Aliya Ashadi, asked why the issue has been raised now.

Justice Krishna Dixit has referred the matter to a larger bench today.
"I feel this matter requires consideration of larger bench. The wisdom emanating from neighbouring High Court judgments needs to be treated," the Court said.
"Having regard to the enormity of questions of importance which are debated, the court is of opinion that the papers be put at the hand of Chief Justice to decide if a larger bench can be constituted in the subject matter," Justice Krishna Dixit mentioned in the order.
