Hijab row: Pakistan foreign minister alleges India ‘ghettoize’ Muslims

Islamabad: Hijab vs Saffron row may continue in Karnataka till High Court decides over the petitions, Pakistan has waded into the controversy.

Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi alleged that India was violating Muslim girls were being terrorized. Shah Mahmood also blamed that wearing hijab was part of India’s plan of ghettoisation of Muslims.

He Tweeted that "Depriving Muslim girls of an education is a grave violation of fundamental human rights. To deny anyone this fundamental right & terrorise them for wearing a hijab is absolutely oppressive. World must realise this is part of Indian state plan of ghettoisation of Muslims."

Pakistan foreign minister’s pocking nose in the internal affairs of the country has criticized by many including Asaduddin Owaisi.

Meanwhile the Karnataka High Court has referred the matter to a larger bench. Justice Krishna S Dixit has placed the petitions before the Chief Justice for constitution of a larger bench.

Bench has refused to pass an interim order, Petitioners advocate has requested the bench to pass an interim order as final exams will be held in March.

State government has passed an order ban on wearing clothes that disturb equality, integrity and public order in schools and colleges. The move had come after a college in Udupi and Kundapura had prevented girl students from attending classes while wearing hijab.

The row has spread across the state and the state high court is seized of the matter, with a ruling expected today.

The Karnataka government Tuesday ordered the closure of schools and colleges across the state in view of the volatile situation following standoffs between hijab-wearing girl students and saffron symbol displaying boys.
