Jorhat boat accident: 2 missing, 87 passengers rescued by NDRF
Guwahati: Two persons are missing and 87 passengers were rescued and traced alive after two boats collided and one of them capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Jorhat, on Wednesday.
Rescue operations are underway in the Brahmaputra river in Jorhat where two boats collided.
Assam Chief Minister met those injured in the boat accident and enquired about their health at Jorhat Medical College & Hospital. Also, he urged doctors to ensure the best treatment. He thanked Good Samaritans whose timely and exemplary interventions saved many lives.
Also, the chief minister visited the boat accident site near Nimati Ghat and took stock of the present situation and rescue operations by NDRF and SDRF. He has directed Jorhat District Administration to register a criminal case on the accident.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said both Centre and state governments are working together to conduct the rescue operation. He paid condolences to the family of one who died in the incident. He assured appropriate action to avoid such accidents in future.
