Rajat Bedi booked for causing death

Mumbai: Actor Rajat Bedi has been booked by the police in Mumbai for 'causing death by negligence of a pedestrian. Bedi was involved in an accident where his car hit a pedestrian two days ago.

Bedi rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, the person has died and the police have now charged Bedi with the serious offence.

The accident occurred on September 7. The victim, Rajesh Ramsingh Doot allegedly came in front of Bedi's car all of a sudden. Before Bedi could apply brakes, the car had hit the victim who sustained serious injuries. Bedi shifted him to the Cooper Hospital. He also arranged blood for him.

The victim was on life support and died today. Bedi's manager has claimed that the victim was drunk. He was a labourer.

The case has been registered in the DN Nagar police station in Mumbai and Bedi has been booked under two charges of the IPC; Section 279 and Section 338. While Section 279 is for rash driving, Section 338 is for the crime of "causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others." It carries a sentence of up to two years imprisonment. Section 279 carries a maximum punishment of six months imprisonment.
