Basavaraj Bommai takes oath as Karnataka Chief Minister, PM Modi congratulates

Bengaluru: Basavaraj Bommai took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan. Governor Thawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy in a function attended by BJP MLAs, family members and supporters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Basavaraj Bommai on taking oath as Karnataka’s CM. The new chief minister is likely to meet the Prime Minister after assuming office.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said Basavaraj Bommai is an educated and an experienced leader. Joshi is confident that Karnataka Government would do well under his leadership.

Earlier, Basavaraj Bommai met the Central BJP observer and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former CM BS Yediyurappa before the oath-taking ceremony.

The Chief Minister will address the media at 1 PM noon at the conference hall, Vidhana Soudha.

The chief minister said, "I will chair a meeting of the Cabinet later today. After that, I will hold a meeting with senior officers to review COVID-19 and the flood situation in the state".

BJP Legislative Party departed from the traditional approach in the appointment of the chief minister in Karnataka. The BJPLP Tuesday appointed Basavaraj Bommai, from the non-RSS background, as the new chief minister.
