Tokyo Olympics: Barty knocked out, Sania-Ankita pair suffers defeat
Tokyo: In a disappointing turn of events, Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina were knocked out in Doubles 1st round by Kichenok twins 6-0, 6-7, 8-10 on Sunday. The Indians had won the 1st set 6-0 and were leading 5-3 in 2nd.
In another shocker of defeats, top-ranked Wimbledon Champion Ash Barty was defeated by 48th-ranked Spanish opponent Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-4, 6-3 in the first round Olympic tennis tournament. It was Barty’s Olympic singles debut.
Ash Barty won a doubles match with Australian teammate Storm Sanders on Saturday. The defeat comes 15 days after Barty won Wimbledon for her second Grand Slam title.
