Karnataka Election Results 2023 : Early trends show Congress in leading position as counting of votes continues

Counting of votes is now on in 36 centres across Karnataka. It’s a 3-way fight between the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government, the Congress led by Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar and HD Kumaraswamy’s JD (S). As of now the Congress is comfortably ahead of the others.

One hour and 15 minutes into counting, the Congress is leading in Bangalore, Kalyan Karnataka, Kittur Karnataka and South regions. All except excpect the coastal region, where the BJP is ahead. A party or a coalition needs to win 113 seats to secure a majority in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly. Exit polls have predicted an edge for the Congress in a tight fight with the BJP. Many have predicted a hung House. In such a scenario, HD Kumaraswamy’s JD(S) may play kingmaker.
