Kejriwal inaugurates India's first smog tower in Delhi
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated India's first smog tower, which is around 25 metres tall, at Connaught Place on Monday.
Arvind Kejriwal said, "Smog tower set up as pilot project. If it is successful, it will be replicated in other parts of Delhi".
"To fight pollution, we have installed India's first smog tower in Delhi today. It can help clean air within one-kilometer range," said Kejriwal.
The tower built at the cost of Rs 20 crore is estimated to clean 1,000 cubic metres of air every second, helping reduce PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels in the locality. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the nodal authority for the smog tower, collaborates with IIT-Mumbai, National Building Construction Corporation and Tata group to jointly build it.
AAP government planning similar towers across Delhi to purify polluted air.
However, Twitterati said India's First Smog Tower was inaugurated on 3rd January 2020 by cricketer-turned-politician BJP MP Gautam Gambhir. They slammed Kejriwal for claiming to inaugurate 'India's first-ever Smog Tower
