Landslide in Himachal Pradesh: many people trapped inside

Shimla: More than 40 people are feared buried following a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur. 

The landslide took place on Reckong Peo- Shimla Highway at 12.45 pm. Many vehicles are reportedly buried under debris. 

Due to heavy rain, a landslide has taken place. A state-owned bus, truck, and other vehicles are believed to have been buried, 

On the state-owned bus, nearly 40 people are travelling to Shimla. Indo- Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been sent to the spot for the rescue operation. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had also been called for the rescue operation. 

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Thakur said that police and district administration had been directed to carry out rescue operations. The help of NDRF has been sought. According to the preliminary report, one bus and a car were reportedly buried under debris. 

After reaching the spot, ITBP has tweeted that “a landslide reported on Reckong Peo- Shimla Highway in #Kinnaur District in Himachal Pradesh today at around 12.45 Hrs. One truck, an HRTC Bus, and few vehicles reported came under the rubble. Many people reported being trapped. ITBP teams rushed for rescue. More details awaited”.
