Pilot's intelligence avoids mishap: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that another plane had come in front of her plane, and it was the pilot's quick action that prevented a head-on collision. She revealed this two days after her chartered flight suffered mid-air turbulence.

Following the injury of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banjaree in mid-air turbulence, the Bengal government requested a report from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Mamta told reporters in the assembly premises on Monday that another plane had abruptly come in front of her plane. If the situation had lasted another ten seconds, the two planes would have collided head-on. She said that her plane did not come into contact with any air pockets. The plane had successfully landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

CM Mamta Banerjee, was aboard the Dassault Falcon 2000, which has a capacity of 19 passengers. The Bengal government requested a report on turbulence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday. It had also requested a report on whether Banerjee's chartered aircraft route had been approved in advance.

This is not for the first time the Bengal Chief Minister has experienced trouble while traveling by air.

In 2016, a private plane she was on her way back from Patna hovered over Kolkata sky for more than 30 minutes before landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The Trinamul Congress then claimed that the flight was permitted to hover despite running low on fuel, implying a "plot to kill" the party chief.

Mamata had to wait for four hours to fly back to Delhi in August 2017, due to a cooling unit failure of an aircraft and the aircraft was arranging an alternate flight. In February 2018, her aircraft had lingered for roughly 30 minutes in the air due to lack of available runway, the CM was returning Kolkata from North Bengal’s Bagdogra.
