New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the passing away of veteran Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu.
The Prime Minister tweeted : "Shri Nedumudi Venu was a versatile actor, who could fill life into diverse roles across many genres. He was also a prolific writer and was passionate about theatre. His passing away is a loss to the world of films and culture. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
Veteran Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu, 73, passed away at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. He was hospitalized because of health complications.
Kesavan Venugopal, better known by his stage name Nedumudi Venu, was an Indian film actor and screenwriter who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. He acted in more than 500 films, primarily in Malayalam and also in Tamil in a career spanning nearly five decades. He made his debut in films with Thambu, directed by G Aravindan in 1978.
Nedumudi Venu won three National Film Awards, and six Kerala State Film Awards for his performances.
