Rahul Gandhi likely to move court against conviction on Monday
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has filed a plea in the Surat sessions court against the Magistrate order sentencing him to two years in prison in a defamation case, sources told The Indian Express. The court is set to hear his plea Monday.
The appeal is against the March 23 order by Chief Judicial Magistrate H H Verma which held Gandhi guilty in a defamation case over his 2019 remark about “thieves with the surname Modi”. The Magistrate sentenced the Congress leader to two years in prison, following which he was disqualified as Member of Parliament.
