Rawat likely to be relieved from Punjab in-charge role
Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has asked party high command to relieve him as Punjab Congress in charge.
Faction-ridden Punjab Congress has divided over the change of leadership issue. Pro- Navjot Singh Sidhu demanded a change of leadership, and the pro- Amarinder Singh camp has insisted on the continuation of Captain in CM post. More than 50 MLAs, ten ministers, and 8 MPs have attended the dinner hosted by Amarinder Singh and openly said that 2022 Punjab elections would be contested under the leadership of Amarinder Singh.
Meanwhile, Congress has asked Mr. Rawat to concentrate on the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttarakhand. Mr. Rawat has confirmed his appointment as Uttarkhand in charge; he said that he will be concentrating on the upcoming polls in his state.

Mr. Rawat said that he would abide by the decision of the party high command. “If my party asks me to continue as Punjab affairs, I will continue”, Mr. Rawat added. Both Punjab and Uttarakhand will go for the polls in 2022.
Congress is seeking to retain power in Punjab and aiming to defeat the ruling BJP in Uttarakhand. However, Punjab Congress is a divided house, pro-Sidhu camp is demanding for change of leadership in the state. Mr. Sidhu is making open statements against incumbent Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
