Russia hopes relations with India will be unaffected post-US sanctions

New Delhi: Amid US sanctions on Russia in the wake of recognising independent status to breakaway republics in eastern Ukraine, Russia hoped for bilateral cooperation with India will remain unaffected.

Reacting to the latest development in Ukraine, Russian Embassy in India spoke to news agency ANI on the state of the Russia-India relations.

Briefing media in Delhi on sanctions against Russia and its impact on cooperation with India, the Deputy Chief of Mission mentioned the outcomes of recent Russian-Indian bilateral summit in December last year. He said both countries signed the program of 10 years cooperation in the defence area in the sidelines of the Summit.

On the impact of sanctions on cooperation with India, Roman Babushkin, Russian Embassy's Dy Chief of Mission, said, "We hope our partnership will continue further at the same level which we are enjoying today, especially have a look at outcomes of recent Russian-Indian bilateral summit in Dec 2021".

On the sidelines, we've signed the program of 10 years of cooperation in the defence area. We have a lot of big projects in the pipeline & we have full confidence that all our plans will be successfully implemented", added the Russian Embassy DCM.

" Today Donetsk and Luhansk applied officially to Russia for recognition of their independence. But from the very beginning,US started its internal influence in domestic affairs in countries on all post-Soviet space, including Ukraine".

The US sanctions bars "new investment, trade and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in" the so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic.

The order also provides authority to impose sanctions on "any person determined to operate in those areas of Ukraine," Psaki said, adding the administration will later "announce additional measures related to today's blatant violation of Russia's international commitments."
