Sarpatta Parambarai Vs Toofan boxing bout on OTT
Two films on boxing were released on Amazon Prime OTT over the last few days. One was the highly-publicized Farhan Akhtar starrer Toofan. Two days later, we had Pa Ranjith's Tamil film Sarpatta Parambarai. Going by the response to both the films, it looks like the neutral audience has taken a liking to the Tamil film.
Fans of the respective stars have rooted for their films. But when it come to reviews of both the films combined, Sarpatta wins the bout.
Independent reviewer Bobby (of Bobby Talks) Tweeted, "Just 50 min of watching #SarpattaParambarai (Tamil) reveals how Hindi Cinema's similar attempt #Toofan stands so pale in comparison.... and how even a predictable sports drama can still come up with great solid punches representing an underdog."
Some found the release pattern a deliberate choice. One fan announced, "Amazon Prime made a good choice of releasing Sarpatta after a blunder like Toofan."
There were critical analysis of the films too as one audience noted, "The major difference between Toofan and Sarpatta is Toofan tried to involve politics in a boxing film while Sarpatta used boxing as a tool to propagate its politics."
Subbakrishna Rao, CTO and co-founder of Clootrack Tweeted, "Going by just pedigree, Sarpatta Parambarai
Pa Ranjit is a million times better as a storyteller than Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Bollywood is not a patch on S. Indian Cinema."
Sarpatta Parambarai may be winning all the praise. But the lead actor of the Tamil film Arya, praised Toofan and Farhan Akhtar. "Knockout performance from
Farhan Akhtar. Hats off to your transformation and dedication," he Tweeted with a photo of him watching the film on television at home.
