'Veerappan' filmmaker complains against TV channel after film release on OTT
AMR Ramesh, the director-producer of the Kannada film Attahasa based on the police operation to eliminate forest-brigand Veerappan has filed a police complaint against the Kannada channel Star Suvarna and middleman Mahesh Kothari.
Ramesh filed the complaint after the film appeared on Disney+Hotstar OTT platform. Ramesh claims that he had not sold the OTT rights either to Star Suvarna or Mahesh Kothari but they have transferred it to Disney+Hotstar. The police at Chennamana Kere Achchukattu station have registered the complaint and investigating the cheating angle.
According to the complaint, the rights of the film made in 2012 was with AMR Ramesh. He sold the TV rights to Star Suvarna. After that he was negotiating with Mahesh Kothari for selling it to an OTT but the deal did not materialise. However he found that the film was uploaded on Disney+Hotstar a few months ago. Only Kothari and the TV channel could have given it to the OTT as they had the copies, according to the complaint.
Kishore played Veerappan in the movie which was made in Kannada and Tamil. Ramesh is currently shooting a web-series based on the same subject with Kishore once again essaying the role of Veerappan.
