Second phase elections in three states held peacefully
In second phase of polling was held to 70 assembly seats in Uttarakhand , 40 seats in Goa and for 55 out of 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Uttarakhand- 61.5 %, Goa -78.94 % and Uttar Pradesh 62.99% polling recorded.
New Delhi: In second phase of voting for 55 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, 62.99 turn vote was registered.
Uttarakhand recorded 61.58 per cent voter turnout in the Assembly elections, Goa achieved 78.94 per cent voter turnout while Uttar Pradesh recorded 62.99 per cent polling, says Elections Commission of India.
In UP, total 586 candidates are contesting for 55 Assembly constituencies in 9 districts, in which 69 women candidates are contesting. Total voters are 2.02 crore.
Out of 55 seats, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 38 in the 2017 elections, followed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) at 13, the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with two seats each.
Some of the prominent candidates who contested in the second phase of elections on Monday included SP leader Azam Khan (Rampur) and state ministers Baldev Singh Aulakh (Bilaspur) and Suresh Khanna (Bilaspur).
In the first phase of assembly elections for 58 assembly constituencies on February 10, Uttar Pradesh recorded a voter turnout of over 60%.
In Uttarakhand total 632 candidates are in fray, in which 63 women candidates are trying their luck in the elections. Total voters are 82.67 lakh,
Goa Assembly has a strength of 40 members in which the ruling BJP has 17 legislators and enjoys the support of legislators from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Vijay Sardesai of the Goa Forward Party (GFP), and three independents.
In 2022 Assembly elections, 301 candidates were in the fray for the 40 Assembly seats, in which 26 are women candidates. Total 11.57 lakh people were eligible to cast their votes. They include 9,590 persons with disabilities, 2,997 aged over 80 years, 41 sex workers and nine transgenders. The counting of votes will take place on March 10. Goa is witnessing a multi-cornered contest, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other smaller parties vying to make a mark on the state's electoral scene.
