Shang-Chi and Fast9 witness houseful shows in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Hollywood movies Shang-Chi and Fast9 managed houseful shows in Bengaluru over the weekend albeit with 50 per cent seating capacity. Despite that it was a relief for exhibitors, both multiplex and single-screens who were worried if audience were ready to come back to theatres.
The good response to the Hollywood releases prompted many single-screen theatres that were unwilling to open doors for the last one month to shed their inhibitions and start screening the films. The Karnataka State Government allowed opening of theatres with 50 percent seating capacity a month ago, but almost all single-screen theatres remained shut. The Covid19 second wave has abated in Karnataka and even schools are reopening.
The Ganesha festival weekend the coming week is another occassion for single screens to reopen. There is only one Kannada film; Lanke, starring Loose Mada Yogish that is releasing. The film is making its way to around 90-100 single screens. This still leaves out 400-500 other single screens. This is said to be the reason for them to opt for Hollywood movies.
Both these Hollywood movies were dubbed into Kannada and single screens that reopened last week are screening both the English and Kannada dubbed versions in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
